Spectacles Vs Ortho K
What are my options?
Not all patients will be suitable for ortho K. Factors to consider include age, lifestyle, ocular health and spectacle prescription. If your child is currently not suitable for ortho K, there are other ways we can reduce myopic progression, such as using a combination of special spectacle lenses and eye drops.
MiyoSmart lenses from Hoya use patented "Defocus Incorporated Multiple Segments D.I.M.S. Technology" incorporated into an impact resistant spectacle lens. The MiyoSmart lens from Hoya uses the same philosophy as ortho K (using peripheral defocus), and has been shown by studies to reduce myopic progression by 60%* in children aged 8 to 13.
Antifatigue lenses by CR Surfacing Laboratories is an Australian lens designed for myopes who have visual eye strain. If your child has signs that their focusing and binocular vision may be a contributing factor to their myopic progression, this lens may be used instead. Adding a Satin Blue filter multicoat can also reduce further eye strain from digital devices.
